Is your mind your friend? Here are some things for you to think about to transform your mind from being sometimes busy and scatty, into calm and creative.
Most people think that others have a clear mind and that it is only our own minds which are busy. This is certainly not the case. Some do have clearer minds but everyone experiences what I like to call 'mind attacks'. What does the mind do? It creates thoughts. It does it based on habits. Habitual thinking comes from childhood and is then compounded by the experiences of life. There is a very good reason why it is said ' changing your thinking will change your experiences'. The first step is to acknowledge that your mind seems to somehow be on autopilot. There are too many thoughts which leave you confused and exhausted. There is a little trick which you can play on your mind which will enable you to take control. Try to observe what your mind is doing. You have to be still for this. Sit and watch what is going on in your head, much like watching a movie. It may take a number of attempts before you can see your mind, instead of feeling that you are your mind. Once you can do this the next step is to begin to take back control. You do this by talking to your mind. You decide what is more important to you right now. You then gently say to your mind "I will think about this later. Right now I will think about ..." Focus on what is necessary in the moment. Doing this with regularity will bring your mind under your control. If you are able to do this, and it will take practice, you will find not only are you able to maintain focus for longer periods, but you will also have more creative thoughts too. Your experiences will also change, you will have better experiences as a consequence! Do let me know how you get along!
